Nathan Daniel – Artist Biography

Nathan Danel is a mixed media artist who lives and works in San Diego, California. He was born in 1988 in Baghdad, Iraq. In 1990, his family was forced to leave Iraq to escape their probable demise from the Iran-Iraq and Gulf Wars, losing their home, businesses, family memories and had to start a new life.

Arriving in Spain, his family had only several hundred dollars and no home. Nathan’s family lived in Madrid, Spain for one year with a loving Spanish family that provided food and shelter. Following their one year stay in Madrid, the Spanish Government denied his family continued asylum and were forced to leave. Fortunately, Nathan’s uncle lived in the United States where his family could be granted asylum. In 1992, they moved to San Diego, California and received United States Citizenship shortly after.

In hopes of attaining the “American Dream,” his father worked 80 hours per week to support the family while saving for a home. In 2000, after a decade of hard work, his father purchased their first home.

Nathan’s father suddenly passed away on July 11, 2018. From there his deeper interest in Art started. Several months after his death he saw art in a new light. He was able to express grief in processing his death through art.

His artwork is influenced by his Arabian roots, the unexpected death of his beloved father, and a profound interest in geodes and crystals. His distinctive personal style incorporates vibrant pigments, crystals, and resin to express the natural beauty of our world.

Vibrant cosmos, golden islands, dazzling blue oceans, spectacular nebulas, luminous geodes, dynamic waves, and sparkling rivers are brought to life with the contrast of color, luminosity and texture.

Nathan’s artwork is a window into his heart and soul and it brings him joy to share this with others and their realm.  His artwork is an expression of his pride in Middle Eastern heritage and life journey. It's crazy to think how life can change at any moment and how things come and go. Art for him is here to stay.
